Hawa Mahal and Jaipur

Hawa Mahal and Jaipur are two sides of same coin in other words the pink city is known through Hawa Mahal as the most differently designed monument of the capital of Rajasthan is not Mahal, Palace, although it is called Hawa Mahal. Built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799 it was designed by Lal Chand Ustad in the form of the crown of Lord Krishna. A red and pink sandstone building has the unique five-storey exterior akin to the honeycomb of the beehive with its 953 small windows called jharokhas decorated with intricate lattic work. The basic intention of the lattice was to allow royal ladies, who use to observe strict dhugant, to observe everyday life in the street below without being seen by others as it is part of the City Palace and extends to the Zenana or women's chambers.
