Sardar Patel has a ambition to ensure the survival of a united India through the instrument of a strong civil service. Patel conceived of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) replacing the then Indian Civil Service (ICS) of British rule. Not only this, Patel also conceived of the Indian Police Service (IPS) for police side. Both these administrative and police services are very much part of bureaucratic setup of the country and fully active today.
