SUSHIL KUMAR: NEW BRAND AMBASSDOR OF DELHI GOVERNMENT



The Lieutenant Governor, Delhi Shri Najeeb Jung announced to double the amount of sports budget of the Government of NCT of Delhi and also announced that Sushil Kumar will be the Brand Ambassador of Delhi Government. Shri Jung made this announcement at a felicitation ceremony of medal winners, belonging to Delhi, of the Commonwealth Games 2014, Glasgow for their outstanding performance organized by Sports Wing of Directorate of Education of Government of Delhi at Delhi Secretariat today.

Shri Jung said it is a matter of great pride that eight Delhi sportspersons have brought laurels for the country and Delhi in Commonwealth Games 2014 held at Glasgow. He said, the efforts made by Sh. Sushil Kumar, Sh. Yogeshwar Dutt and Sh. Amit Dahiya for the Gold medal winning performance are indeed a proud moment for India. The silver medal bagged by Sh. Bajrang Kumar, Sh. Rajiv Tomar, Ms. Shreyasi Singh and bronze medal bagged by Sh. Manavjit Singh Sandhu, Sh. Pawan Kumar is something which has strengthened our belief in the budding talented youngsters of capital. Out of these eight sportspersons, six are wrestlers and two are shooters.

Lieutenant Governor, Delhi said these sportspersons have proved that even with limited financial support, the country can perform better in sports. He said the humility of these sports persons is a class apart as juniors can learn a lot from these sports persons as their role model. In the days to come, we hope to continue our journey of winning more and more medals and keep the tricolor flying high, he further added.
Speaking on the occasion, Delhi Chief Secretary Shri S.K. Srivastava said the Government of Delhi is fully committed to support the emerging young sport persons so that they can achieve medal in coming Olympic and Asiad Games.

The newly announced Brand Ambassador of Delhi Sh. Sushil Kumar has represented the Country in prestigious Olympic Games three times i.e. in 2004 Athens Olympics; 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics in 66 kg free style category of Wrestling. He is the only wrestler of the Country who won medals in back-to-back Olympic Games.

The Principal Secretary (Education) Shri Anindo Mazumdar, Director Education Smt. Padmini Singla and other senior officers from Government of NCT of Delhi were also present on the occasion.
