2700 students of 44 Government Schools of the Directorate of Education of Government of NCT of Delhi will participate in a programme under “Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan” organized at the India Gate on 2nd October 2014, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. These students will also take Swachhta Shapath (Sanitation Pledge) along with the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi by reading the contents from the ‘Pledge Paper’. These students will participate in a 3 km long ‘Walkathon’ which is being organized on this occasion.
In addition, all the schools and offices of the Directorate will remain open on 2nd October. The staff have been told to report for duty at 09.00 am and participate in the ‘Swachhta Shapath’ at 09.45 am. Thereafter, they will engage themselves in cleanliness activities in/near their respective work places.
Students have also been asked to come to schools and participate in the cleanliness programmes/activities. A special mid day meal has been arranged for the students on this special occasion.
The Directorate is organizing Painting and Slogan Writing Competitions also in order to commemorate this occasion. Private schools are not far behind either. A number of them are also participating in this cleanliness campaign.
The Director Education Mrs. Padmini Singla said that private and aided schools apart, the entire family of the Directorate – which includes 17 lakh students and 50,000 staff – will be contributing towards ensuring the ‘ Swachh Vidyalaya - Swachh Delhi Abhiyan’.
